“Life is short and the world is wide.”

As you drive west out of Arkansas on Interstate 40 into Oklahoma, one of the first things you notice is the large (and usually lighted) billboard signs for an Indian casino.  There were several billboards, along the way, informing you of the dates that entertainers like Kelly Clarkston and Bill Engvall would be performing.

I found it interesting that driving along I40 there were quite a few casinos.  Every few miles, at each tribal boundary there was another casino.  There were the familiar names for the tribes, like Cherokee, Creek, and Shawnee but there were many I did not recognize.  Names like Checotah, Okemah, Kickapoo, and Sac & Fox Nation.  Many of the casinos had western names like Remington Park, Riverwind, Lucky Star, Sugar Creek, and Firelake, to name a few.

All in all, there are twenty one casinos along Interstate 40 from Arkansas to Texas with many more on other highways and towns in Oklahoma.  I guess it proves that people will stop their trips to come in and play for a while, get a meal and continue on their way.

While Traveling Life’s Highways, my take is that the Indian casinos are doing just fine or there wouldn’t be so many of them.
