D. Whittington, an American author, also uses the pseudonym of Icewind, on his internet blog, Icewind’s Ramblings, which for over ten years has looked at Life’s oddities through humor, stories, & observations on the human condition.  It covers almost anything as seen through the eyes of a Southerner who lived in Alaska over fifteen years experiencing life with a “Northern Exposure”.  His other blog site, “Where’s the Flamingo”, a fun site with Placido Flamingo in the vein of ‘flat Stanley’ project showing up all over the world during their travels.

His love for writing began with his daddy Paul, who told funny stories when he was a child.  Over the years Whittington loved writing about his many adventures during his days of competitively flying hang gliders and hot air balloons around the world.  There were always interesting places to experience life and writing about them was a joy and continues to be.

Whittington has been writing off and on over the years with articles and stories in several specialty magazines.  Flying was a passion and D. wrote several stories for Hang Gliding Magazine about the sport he loved when he was younger.  He has also written technical articles for several plumbing and mechanical trade magazines over the years.

A native of Atlanta and graduate of Cross Keys High School in 1970, he attended DeKalb Technical School, graduating from the Advanced EMT Paramedic Program, the first in Georgia’s history and holds the # 13 on the initial class certifications.  

Whittington was born April 07, 1952; raised in Atlanta and lived in Utah from 1995-2001.  He then journeyed to Alaska in 2001 living there almost twenty years before returning to his southern roots after family members passing moving to his current hometown, Helen, Georgia, where he still resides.

After graduating from high school, Whittington spent several years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot. D has written many poignant stories about his experiences while serving there.

D. Whittington has worked as a corporate pilot, master plumber, and project manager in Alaska.  Currently the Project Whittington is working on is traveling the country in an RV that he totally refurbished looking for America through the eyes of a veteran and writing stories along the way.
