I have enjoyed reading D. Whittington’s post in his Icewind’s Ramblings blog for many, many years. The variety, depth and point of view in the blog posts have me thirsting for the next post. Icewind’s depth of knowledge of the Alaskan spirit, combined with growing up in America’s south provides interest and a rather unique perspective on life in Alaska as well as Icewind’s many journeys throughout the United States and abroad.

Following Dee Whittington’s Icewind’s Ramblings blog, Facebook posts and photos began from a
Facebook friendship. We attended Cross Keys High School in Atlanta, GA in the 60’s. I didn’t remember too many details from those long ago days but so many years later what drew me into Icewind was his ability to engage me to take that journey, experience or memory with him. The first experiences were in Alaska where Dee was living, flying, writing and photographing. The beauty of Alaska was incredible and the blogs were so entertaining and enjoyable. He has that fabulous ability to draw the reader into every experience. I appreciate and enjoy his sense of humor, humility, coping skills, perceptions, achievements, memories, and life lessons presented to the reader in such a way that we are along on that ride, walk, flight, road or path with him. Alaska was where we began but we have traveled across the country with Icewind in the past and present, to beaches and mountains, lakes and oceans, winding roads, backyards, sunrises and sunsets and into hearts and minds. In recent travels Icewind was accompanied by a large pink “stuffed” (for lack of a better word) Flamingo who traveled and was photographed all along the journey in his “Where’s the Flamingo blog. One particular incident and one of my favorites was Icewind and the Flamingo stopped and checked by the Border Patrol. There are so many interesting tales and adventures I would not attempt to describe them here. Dee is a Vietnam Vet, a pilot, explorer, son, friend to many, talented craftsman, story teller and possesses a grand sense of humor. Take a journey, a ride or a walk with him. You will not be disappointed.
