Interesting people met in DC

“Life is short and the world is wide.”

Taking the bus/train into Washington, DC from Cherry Hill RV Park and Campground there was a couple riding that had a service dog with them.  We chatted briefly before we headed off into different directions, they were headed to Arlington Cemetery and we were headed to the Washington Mall to see the museums and Monuments.  Later that evening as we got the train station they were coming back as we were and talked with them again on the ride back to transfer to the bus getting us back to the campground.

Craig and Hillary walked up the next morning as we waited for the bus to go to the Arlington Cemetery and spoke with them again.  Craig was in the Marine Corp and has his ever present and constant companion, Gunny at his side.  Gunny is a small black Lab who had beautiful intense eyes and an attentive but mellow manner.  Hillary said they were from Buffalo, New York down with cousins and nephews who were also staying in the campground.

Thank you for your service Craig, I know we are never the same after events in our lives but with time and a positive attitude we keep on smiling and take the blessings of live each day.  Semper Fi.

More interesting people were Mike and his daughter Jennifer who are traveling around visiting relatives around the country.  We were talking about each of our trips; they started out in Cocoa Beach, Florida and ours in Helen, Georgia and the places we each had visited.  While we were talking his daughter broke out a “flat Stanley” figure and I laughed and told them about my flamingo.  It turns out that theirs is “Flat Judy” who was Mike’s late wife.  She passed away at the end of the year after a five year illness.  Mike is traveling around the country (with Judy’s permission) to visit people and places they had talked about but never got to do.

Mike is working his way from the east all the way to Seattle in a few months spending time with his children and other relatives along the way.

Again, I see people who are living each day and not wasting the time everyone has and sharing the experiences with family and friends.

Our now clock is ticking so don’t wait for things to happen in your lives, make positive things happen NOW.

From our Nation’s capital, good night.
