Clear, 90°

Today’s post is going to be a little different from what I normally do.  I make posts on TripAdvisor mainly about restaurants, hotels, or resorts I have visited.  I am going to include my recent post on TripAdvisor about Twin Fountains RV Resort.

“We have been “Traveling Life’s Highways” (seeing America through the eyes of a veteran) over 23,000 miles around the United States and Canada.  For almost five months, we have stayed in over 100 RV resorts including: National Parks, KOA, Good Sam, and many mom and pop campgrounds.  Twin Fountains RV Resort is the best that we have found.

This is our second visit to Twin Fountains RV Resort.  We changed the last phase of our trip to come back and enjoy the amenities and relaxation of this fine RV resort.  This is a “big rig” friendly resort with spacious tree shaded sites that are well groomed and include picnic tables and fire pits.

Full hookups include electrical, water, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and sewer that are well placed for easy connections.

For the road weary traveler there are newly remodeled bathrooms, two laundry facilities, a hair salon and spa.

There is a General Store & gift shop, pool, fitness center, mini-golf and more.

Part of the beauty of this resort is the fishing pond with “Twin Fountains” inside the security gates ensuring a safe and happy camping experience.

As a veteran, I appreciated the Semper Fi Bar and Grill to relax after a long day’s drive.  There are not many campgrounds that have this wonderful amenity.

The food is great and prices are reasonable.  The staff is friendly and helpful to ensure a great stay.

That was my post on Trip Advisor and I will add a little more here as there are several funny stories that go with the campground and staff.   During the first visit the Twin Fountains Limo took us to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Twin Fountains Limo (They have two available to take you)

During the second visit, we needed to rent a vehicle for a couple days to get around visiting and seeing different sights around town.  Enterprise Rent a Car normally had some vehicles available in about every city traveled to but, for some reason, they did not seem to have any vehicles for rent in Oklahoma City.  Both times we were in the city there was not one car available to rent.   We were forced to get a vehicle from a competitor, Avis.  The rental location was past the courtesy limit for the limo but one of the employees drove us in his personal rig the five miles to pick up the vehicle.  Going above and beyond seems to be the norm for all the employees at Twin Fountains.  It was very much appreciated and, as a result we were able to drive around town and see some pretty interesting things.

Don Gardner, the goodwill ambassador for the RV Park gave several suggestions of places to see and where to eat on our travels around Oklahoma City.  I wrote about them in the previous post.  We returned from seeing the sights in the late afternoon; it was time to go to the Semper Fi Bar and Grill for a cocktail or beer.  Don and the owner Dow were sitting and talking with guests when we came up to join them.

On the first visit to the Semper Fi Bar, at Twin Fountains, we noticed the television on the wall.  Most bars have them so that was not unexpected.  Taking a closer look there was a sign just underneath the television that read: “Due to unpatriotic activity of the NFL: No NFL games to be viewed on Twin Fountain TV’s.”  It was great!

The NFL players make way too much money for these kinds of shenanigans.  I do believe everyone has a right to protest, my brothers and sisters in the military fight, bleed, and die for everyone to have that right.

The person who started the kneeling, Colin Kaepernick said: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”  But doing so during a time of respect for the flag, the military and those serving is just not the time or place for such protests.  Long ago, the NFL made a decision to capitalize on its ostensible patriotism.  It helped solidify the association between pregame pageantry — and in turn the national anthem — and military appreciation.  It partners with military nonprofit organizations that honorably support active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. (Ok, rant is over.)

A couple of drinks later Don was asking about the trip and places we had visited. When I told them about the last stop at Mount Rushmore, Don said he had been there, too, last year.

I told them as we were driving south, just after leaving the famous heads on the mountain; we noticed this large sign with a red donkey talking about Red Ass Rhubarb Wine.  We were laughing and did not get the chance to stop in for a tasting.  A few minutes later, Don goes out to his RV and returns with a bottle of Red Ass Rhubarb Wine as a gift for us.

Everyone there burst into laughter at the thought that he had also passed by the winery on his trip, stopped and had bought some for gifts.  It was funny, touching, and I think everyone there realized we are all in this world together, so enjoy it and celebrate the friendships made along the way as we all are Traveling Life’s Highways.
